Despite the fact the Dodgers did not win the series against the Astros they managed to snap a 7 series losing streak. The Dodgers split the 4 game set by winning the final 2 games.
After looking as awful as usual the first 2 games, the next two brought back an old fire. The Dodgers had men on base and were stealing again, and of course, managed to bring in men in scoring position. The pitching during the series went as expected, good enough to keep the team within reach.
Brad Penny earned himself a win in the 3rd game of the series, 6-3 the final, and became the first starter to win a game since July 26th, which Penny also won. Russell Martin provided the power, hitting 2 homeruns. It was the first time the young catcher hit a multiple homeruns in a game. Saito recorded the save with his usual enthusiasm.
Derek Lowe followed Brad with a win of his own, 6-2 the final, which snapped a skid of 8 winless starts. The game was a solid Lowe-type of ball game, lots of infield action while the outfielders stood around waiting. Lowe has been plagued by a nagging hip injury that has bothered the Ace. Saito again came into the game to record the save when Roberto Hernandez made a ball game out of a potential blowout.
Next up, as the Dodgers look to climb back into the division race, is division rival Colorado. Unlike the Astros 4 game set, this will be a traditional 3 game weekend set.
