Dodgers drop series to Cardinals

The troubles continue for the Dodgers as they dropped yet another series, this time to the St. Louis Cardinals. The exact same mistakes plagued the Dodgers this series, the bats disappear with RISP, and lousy defense in key situations. The pitching has been stellar for the Dodgers during the drought, the only exception being Mark Hendrickson on Sunday, who gave up 8 earned runs in less then 4 innings of work during the rubber match.

“I just wasn’t executing my pitches,” Hendrickson said. “I made too many mistakes. A starter needs to allow us to be in the game and not play catch-up. Nobody wants to get your butt kicked and sit on a plane for 3 1/2 hours. But it is what it is. We have to put this behind us and get a win.”

The pitching for St. Louis looked sharp, but the same can be said for every team that has faced the Dodgers within the last 3 weeks. Story of the year, Rick Ankiel, hurt the Dodgers with a couple of homeruns in the series.

The struggling Dodgers return home to face the Houston Astros. The Dodgers at 1-2 against the Astros this year. They will send young talent Chad Billingsley against top starter Roy Oswalt. With seven weeks left of the 2007 Baseball season, the Dodgers are 6 games back in the NL West.
