Chad Billingsley pitched seven innings, allowing only one run while surrendering four hits allowing the Dodgers to reach their sixth win in eight games. The final score was 5-2 over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday.
“We had tough stretches this year and last year,” Billingsley said. “A lot of people last year were talking about how the season was over, but baseball’s a funny game. It’s time to be hot and get to the playoffs. It’s better coming in here knowing we’re going to win.”
Billingsley is now 8-4 on the season and had lost his previous four decisions. He struck out seven and was very economical. The shades of greatness were apparent which the Dodgers hope will be more consistent.
Jonathan Broxton’s streak of 94 games without allowing a home run came to an end in the eighth when Tadahito Iguchi’s solo shot cut the lead to 5-2.
Saito came into the game and recorded his 34th save of the season.
The Dodgers now move on to Shea Stadium to face the New York Mets for a weekend series, and look to continue their little hot streak.
