Sorry guys, this old timer could not help letting this day go by without recounting some of the things that happened on this day between the old Giants and Dodger teams. Strangely, there were two great 1-0 games between the two antagonists on August 15th

On this date in 1950, Preacher Roe of the Dodgers defeated Larry Janson of the Giants, 1-0 at the old Polo Grounds as the Dodgers scored their lone run in the second inning. In 1956, at Jersey City (Brooklyn played seven games there in '56 and '57) Johnny Antonelli of the Giants defeated Don Newcombe of the Dodgers by the same score. The lone run came on a homer by Willie Mays.

Actually on a personal note this date is even bigger from my own personal standpoint. On Sunday on this date in 1954, I attended my last game at Ebbets Field as the Dodgers behind Billy Loes trounced the Giants, 9-4 to sweep the three game series. Within a month and three days our family began the move to California.

There were other Giants-Dodgers battles on this date during their Brooklyn Days but I will stop right here. As you young bucks should no by now I do have a photographic memory for things that happened long long ago, but try and remember what I had for dinner three or four nights back and I come up blank. Don't worry, for almost all of you that is a long long way off. man4 man4 man4 man4 man4 man4

Darth, one of the main reasons I do this is to show you that while I am not in your league or the rest of the guys here as far as being a rabid Dodger fan, by my posts regaling my youth you can get the impression that I was once as rabid a Dodger fan as you could be----even to the point that my teachers thought there was something wrong with me upstairs. Tell you what. In the next couple of weeks there is a lot of history trivia about the Dodgers and Giants from the 60's and I will try to give you and the guys a heads-up of what took place on those dates. I have never ceased in my following that rivalry, though. Never.

Fifty years ago today, on September 24, 1957, the Brooklyn Dodgers played their last game in Brooklyn, a 2-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates behind lefty Danny McDevitt. Exactly two weeks later on October 8th the Dodgers announced they were moving to Los Angeles.
