Memorable moments vs. Dodgers
In 1962, the Giants and Dodgers were tied atop the National League on the final day of the season. In the three game playoff, the Giants again took two out of three, with the deciding blow being 4 runs by the Giants in the ninth inning (as the visiting team this time) to take the series and the pennant. This would prove to be the last best-of-3 tiebreaker.

In 1982, the Giants knocked the Dodgers out of the pennant race on the season's last day--October 3--with a home run by Joe Morgan winning the game.

The Giants did it again in 1991, as the Dodgers finished one game behind the Braves after dropping two of three in San Francisco over the final weekend. Trevor Wilson tossed a complete game shutout on the day in which the Dodgers were eliminated.

In 1997, a late September two-game sweep of the Dodgers at Candlestick highlighted by Brian Johnson's home run in the bottom of the 12th tied the Giants with the Dodgers for first place and propelled them into the playoffs.

Brarry Bonds hit his 71st, 72nd, and 73rd homeruns against the Dodgers in the final weekened of the 2001 season, breaking Mark McGwire's previous record of 70.

Memorable Moments vs. Giants

Jackie Robinson was traded to the Giants right after the Dodgers and Giants' last season in New York. Jackie chose to retire instead.

In 1959, the Giants were leading the Dodgers on September 3rd. But, a solid finish by the LA, including a three game sweep of their hated rivals, gave them a pennant crown.

In 1965, the Dodgers came backafter being down by four games in the last two weeks of the season against the Giants. They eventually won the pennant and the World Series.

The Dodgers took rookie pitcher Solomon Torrws to school 1993, with two Mike Piazza home runs keeping the 103-win Giants out of the playoffs on the season's last day

The Dodgers were down by three runs in the 9th inning of the second to last game of the 2004 season. After they tied it, they loaded the bases and Steve Finley promptly hit the game-winning grandslam, ending the game with the score of 7-3. The Dodgers secured their NL West title.

Two years later, in second to last game of the season again, the Dodgers clinched a playoff berth, this time in San Francisco, thanks to Greg Maddux's great performance.

The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry gets all the media attention, but the Dodgers/Giants is vastly overlooked, just look how much history the 2 teams have with each other.

In reality it's just as pointless as the Yankees/ Red Sox rivalry. You have one team that lives in the big city (Dodgers, like the Yankees) and another that lives in an extremely smug, intolerant environment with a lesser population, like Boston only a lot more smug, in San Francisco. You have one team that actually wins championships (Dodgers, like the Yankees) and one that never wins championships (the Giants, like the Red Sox). They're both one sided rivalries as most of hating in the Yankee/Red Sox rivalry comes from Boston's side while most of the hating in our rivalry comes from disgruntled fans in the Bay Area who envy the Dodgers. Naturally (Four Letter Word) (the essential voice of all sports media) can never stop talking about the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets because they're based out of Connecticut and almost all of their anchors and commentators come from the New York, Boston and sometimes Chicago areas. People talk about stations like CNN and Fox News being biased when it comes to news should take a look at (Four Letter Word)'s reporting. They're like CNN before Fox News came around: they're so arrogant and powerful in the media they can say or do whatever they want on air. Such as making openly smug statements about the West Coast and other areas and publicly trashing players like Kobe Bryant while strangely defending cheating athetes like Barry Bonds. Interesting... Maybe it's the San Francisco smugness they identify with so much.

Sad part is that, why would we trade baseball's most important player ever to our arch rival?

It's considered a championship season for Giant fans as long as they do better than the Dodgers.

Tommy, the reason the Dodgers-Giants rivalry gets overlooked is the fault of, believe it or not, most Dodger fans. While the posters here and on DB despise the Giants and want to beat the crap out of them, most of the Dodger fans I know think of the Padres, Mets, Braves and Reds as equal rivals. That is absolutely ridiculous. In the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry fans of both teams absolutely despise the other team with something very akin to hatred. Believe me, this is true.

Giants fans, on the other hand, take the rivalry more serious that most Dodger fans do. They shout "Beat LA" every chance they get. I think many Dodger fans have to start reigniting their antipathy for the Giants as was the case in the 60's. You go to a game back then at DS and fans of both teams were snarling at one another. That is why I am going to sit in the bleachers when I go to the games this year. I hate thinking I'm at a movie or at the opera. I want to sit with real fans who will make noise and raise hell. Besides, I lived my first 14 years in New York and I can tell you all you want to know about hating the Giants.

Number of attempts to leave California for a new city due to poor fanbase:

Giants 2
Dodgers 0
