In Full Swing

The Dodgers are off and running. Small ball is in full effect. The season is in full swing! With the Lakers out of the race and basketball winding down, now’s a great time to be a Dodger fan. This year has so many promises, so many hopes riding in on the wind. Comprised of talented youth and experienced veterans, this could be the blend that pushes the Blue Crew to the next level. Just watching the games now you can see that certain “it” it takes every year for a ballclub to make some noise. With summer bearing down and school being let out, it’s time to get your butt to the ballpark. Show your support and wear your rally caps. These boys are for real and got a legitimate shot at being contenders. Furcal getting a leadoff hit, Pierre stealing a base, RBI machines Garciaparra, Kent, and Gonzales, this line-up is pretty deep. I haven’t even gotten to the main attraction, one Russell Martin. A bonafied superstar in the making. An assett on both sides of the plate. Whether it’s blocking the go-ahead run from scoring or belting a walk-off grand slam, this cat is a can’t miss!

Our pitching staff is reeling right now. Schmidt is down with an injury, Tomko and Lowe are not yet in mid-season form and we are falling behind early in games. Don’t be remissed Dodger fans. There are upsides. Broxton is a stud and Saito is pretty much lights out. Penny is hurling good games. And pleasantly Hendrickson is showing real promise. So there’s hope that when our ace comes back and middle rotation gets into groove, we can reel off a solid win streak.

Let’s talk leather now. Our defense is the one area that’s suspect. Some say we got weak arms in the outfield. Some say our gloves aren’t good enough to keep games close. I call shenanigans! Sure we aren’t a stifling defense but every team has it’s problems. Our defense can get the job done. Furcal and Kent can turn double plays like nobody’s business. Nomar makes little to no errors at the corner. And then there’s the catcher. Martin is by far All-star material. Can gun a runner down at second, chase a fly ball down and like previously stated be that brick wall between the runner and home plate. Yeah we got holes and issues, but we got just enough defense to hold our own.

Timberrrrrr. Our wood isn’t as menacing as the mighty redwood. But our sticks got life in them. Rallies and base knocks are the standard at Chavez Ravine. It’s normal to witness a 1-2 outcome at Dodger Stadium. Every now and then a ball finds it’s way into the stands. And then there’s the memory of Martin’s miracle. We got just enough timber to score the right amount of runs. That combined with our bullpen should be enough to get wins. And it’s all about the W’s baby!

Bottom line is, the Blue is taking back L.A.! Let’s get rowdy. Let’s get ready. This year we need to win the division. Our team is ready to strike, ready to make a run. Let’s support our club. Watch the games either live or on TV!. Let’s go Blue!
