Moving up in dramatic fashion

After leading most of the game the Dodgers turned to Scott Proctor, and on one pitch, the roaring crowd became silent and game shifted momentum. Todd Helton saw a pitch that stayed belt high, and like a big league hitter, smashed a two-run homer into the right-field pavilion off Proctor, putting the Rockies up 3-2. Some fans started heading for the exits, and for good reason. This year’s version of the Los Angeles Dodgers has lacked the come from behind ability all season.

After losing the previous game in 14 innings, the blue mustered up a courageous comeback. Andre Ethier and Russell Martin both singled in the 8th inning. Jeff Kent then came up as a pinch hitter, and despite his career history of being lousy at it, managed to draw a walk to load the bases for Ramon Martinez.

Ramon Martinez hasn’t looked sharp at the plate all season. But in this particular afternoon things were different. Ramon has hit .180 this season, but that did not matter when he singled and drove in 2 runners. The Stadium was in a state of pandemonium.

As history has shown, when the Dodgers take a lead into the 9th inning, they typically win. Takashi Saito was called in to close, and showing his electric stuff, he struck out the side.

After securing their first series win in a month, the Dodgers climbed over the Rockies; however, they remain 6.5 games behind the first place Diamondbacks. All hope is not lost as the Blue are only 2.5 out of the wild card. Now the Dodgers head for the road with critical games against the Phillies and Mets.
