“I’ve been throwing well recently and I wanted to get deep into the game,” said Billingsley. “I wanted to make them hit my pitches. This was a big series and we had to get at least one. If we had gotten swept, it would have hurt a lot.”
That it would have, by avoiding the sweep the Dodgers are only 4 games behind the Diamondbacks and Padres for both the division and wild card races. Grady Little had this to say “We’re down, but we’re not out…There’s always a chance and we have a chance, a good chance. We can’t miss many steps between here and the end. But every game we’re playing now is not do or die.”
The Dodgers will start a series monday against the Chicago Cubs. This series is indeed crucial as the Dodgers can’t afford to drop anymore games in the standing. The blue will look for Rafael Furcal to spark the offense the rest of the way. Furcal has been bothered by an ankle injury dating back to spring training…but you wouldn’t know it from his performance sunday. Furcal swiped 3 bases on the Padres pitching staff. “Sometimes I think too much,” he said. “I just have to get good jumps like I did today. If I steal three bases, I help the team.”
