Hollywood Joe

November 5, 2007: Standing in between two Dodgers icons, Joe Torre is already imagined by others destined to become a third. With Tommy Lasorda on one side and Vin Scully on the other, Torre was introduced today at Dodgers Stadium. Amidst a slew of questions, Joe brought hope and anticipation to a year already filled with heartache to many Angelenos. His speeches and pep talks make the future look so bright and promising. When asked how his relationship was with Alex Rodriguez, Torre was confident that both were “comfortable” with each other. When posed a question about his Chinese players, Joe was quick to not only stop alienating them from the team but at the same time burden himself with the responsibility of getting to know all his players. When he speaks he makes a team seem like a family. He speaks with confidence and pride, at the same time there’s an air of humility and understanding. I see now why players come out of retirement for him. Why players want to play for him. He not only silently commands respect, he equally gives it. Welcome to L.A. Joe Torre. You have our eyes and ears. Soon, hopefully, you will have our hearts!
